Horse Surf Club rules.

 

Horse surfing is a new and exciting sport which started right here in the U.K in 2005. Since then people have started surfing horses all over the world and now in 2008 we are going to witness the first international comps in Europe.  With teams from England , Wales, Holland and France competeing for Equisurf Trophy in La Baule ,France and the X-Fest Gold cup in Skegness.

In England there are teams in Nottingham , London and Bude, to continue the growth or this sport local clubs are being started in these locations the first in Bude. 

We are looking for people who are interested in competeing in this sport from a horsey or boarding point of view.

Here is some general information about the clubs. 

Board riders or non horse riders.

Will need to attend training with horses to learn systems in preparation for the beach.

Competent board riders with experience with any board will pick horse surfing up easily.

People who have never done a board sport can pick it up with in a week.

Both horses and riders can join a club at any time from a training point of view and to learn more about the sport. As apart of your membership to your club and the E.H.R.A you will be able to go to regular training held by your club. This training will prepare you and your horse for eventual beach training and competitions.

To join Beach training as a Horse rider you must first pass these tests.

1. All Horse riders must have passed the grade B standard riding Test set by the Pony club.

1.1 Or passed the extreme horse riding association test.

Show good control of the horse.

Show four controlled paces. Including Gallop.

These paces will be demonstrated in a school or field. You will be asked to make controlled transitions and very each pace.

 

Show precision riding.

This includes stopping on a mark.

Emergency Stops.

Following lines or directions.

One handed at a gallop.

 Rider will also need to show good knowledge of the beach safety as set out by the E.H.R.A.

It is also possible for a horse and rider with experience on the beach to be assessed on the beach.

Beach safety.

1.2 All Horses must compete the Horse test.

This will include.

Working well with other horses. (assessed during training)

The horse must not be nappy to a point where it becomes dangerous. (assessed during training)

The horse must not rear as an evasion. ( assessed during training)

The horse must be happy with towing mountain boards.

The horse must complete straight line training.

2. Beach training stage 1.

Horse must show confidence on the beach.

Rider must be able to ride up to a cater and stop at any time.

Horse must be confident in the water up to his knees.

 

3 Beach training stage 2

Horse surfing.

 

Membership TBA

 Insurance Min £114 annual £9.97 monthly. Max £19.95 a month. This covers the competitor to all events and training.

The Policy is taken out with each individual competitor.

Equine public Liability required . This only needs to specify beach riding.

 

4 Free style

A student can at any time start to learn freestyle horse riding however it is recommended that a student completes beach training first.

There is no set time for a horse and rider to pass the tests it depends totally on the ability and attitude of each.

 

Club leaders and Instructors should try to do three sessions a week with members.

One session should be for training of the horses and riders.

This session should be for the development of horses and riders in preparation for beach training.

One session should be mainly for board riders.

This could very from week to week from board training at a local centre or it could be fitness based. Swimming etc.

One should be team training .

This session should consist of mountain board work. Towing and tricks.

There should also be regular free style horse riding lessons.

Details to be arranged.

All club members should be able to attend all lessons if they wish.
